2021 HBS: Experimental Hops & Brewing
In this session, we will provide an update and overview on some of the latest experimental varieties to come out of YCR’s Breeding Program alongside Hop Breeding Company. These varieties are currently available to the brewing community and include HBC 586, HBC 638 and HBC 630. Hosted by YCH’s Director of Key Accounts and Brewing Innovations, this behind-the-scenes session will discuss the extensive 11 year breeding and development cycle, acreage trends and hop brand launch history. We will also discuss experimental hops from a brewing standpoint, including YCH’s Brewing Program, various approaches to recipe development to best showcase hops, beer sensory, YCH’s EXP Beers and the importance of brewer feedback.

Mark MuellerRegional Sales Lead
Mark Mueller is the Northwest Regional Sales Lead at Yakima Chief Hops, overseeing Washington, Idaho, Montana, and Alaska. He completed a BS in Food Science at Oregon State University with a focus on brewing and fermentation sciences. Mark has worked as a professional brewer at Moonlight Brewing in Santa Rosa, CA and Old Schoolhouse Brewery in Winthrop, WA. He lives in Mount Vernon, WA with his wife Sara. When not at work you can find him hiking, mountain biking, baking sourdough bread, or experimenting with brewing and fermentation.
